Where can we find new resources of oil and gas? If we are to survive the problems that face us today, then we need to find new means of obtaining energy. One obvious place to look is in the Earth’s crust. Under Earth’s surface there exists petroleum – which means solid fuel – which can be found beneath the strata. The challenge will be to find the oil and gas so that we can exploit it for our benefit.
If we drilled into the Earth’s crust and found oil, that would represent one way of finding new means of obtaining energy. But the question is how deep can one go? What is the cost of extracting oil from such a layer? How much of that oil would we find in the type of thickness that would be commercially viable?
There are many challenges we face in this regard. For instance, what if there were a shortage of these new sources of energy? Would it still be possible to find them? Will we ever discover them?
Of course, we don’t know. It certainly wouldn’t be easy. If we cannot drill into the Earth’s crust, then we can try to look in the ocean, like the seismic surveying. If we put a net or other means around the ocean bed, we may find other resources. That’s one option.
Another option is to look in the outer space. There have been many theories proposed about the possibility of finding new planets like our own. Some of those proposals have suggested that our solar system might contain elements that could be used as a fuel source. It would be like the idea of refining oil from outer space or using water from distant planets. It sounds like a good idea, but there is one problem – space is just big stuff and it would take us millions of years to travel to even the most distant planet in the solar system.
So, that’s the answer to the question of where can we find new sources of oil and gas? We’ll probably never find one. But you should have an idea about what the future holds for those of you who are still thinking along those lines. The sooner you start planning now, the sooner you’ll be one step ahead.
The price of gas is likely to go higher, especially if you live in a colder climate. If you buy fuel in the summertime, you’ll pay more in the winter. With increased oil and gas prices, it’s a good time to think about purchasing an energy efficient car. That would allow you to save money on fuel costs. And if you’re not interested in driving around in an older car, you might want to think about putting gas in the car you drive now.
At some point, oil and gas prices will rise again. So that’s another question. Will the cost of finding new supplies of the precious commodity go up? Hopefully someone finds a way to find new oil and gas fields before the prices go up again.
